Greetings!

Before I decided to become a "novelist-in-progress," I dabbled in poetry. However, to tell you the truth I used to LOATHE poetry. Almost as much as I loathed writing essays, which is ironic in a sense since I'm choosing a career that requires writing and sometimes research when writing about a specific topic in the story for social realism.

My distaste for poetry goes back to my middle school years from 2012 to 2015 where I had to do them in Language Arts classes. I particularly remember struggling with them because my teachers kept telling I lacked any flow or rhythm to them and this only made me resent poetry more and more because I couldn't seem to have made anything that was good enough for the teacher!

Several years passed since then and I didn't give much thought to poetry because it was just an annoying genre. Then I met my 10th grade English teacher who I'll refer to as Ms. Martinez and she had a way of talking about poetry that made it sound interesting and made me reconsider my opinion of them. When I did write poetry for that class, she gave encouraging feedback rather than just telling me what was lacking. She helped improve my skills and she is the one who gave me the courage to participate in those poetry contests where my poems got published! I owe thanks to her for that and for giving me the encouragement that I had in what it takes to be an author when I used to write random lore when I was developing the lore of my book.

Since then, I occasionally wrote poetry to pour my feelings into something, but my main priority has been writing the manuscript for my first novel.

Have any of you dabbled with other kinds of literary mediums apart from your main one? If so, what are they?

Below is an experimental poem I've made and posted on Instagram. I organized it in a way to resemble an eye. Thank you for reading!
